Current Student Newsletter

Hello,

As the start of the fall semester draws nearer, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind you of a few things that might help you get off to a great start.

Photo IDs
All students are required to obtain a college ID and have it on them at all times.  In addition, students on the 401S Main Campus will also need a Fall 09 verification sticker affixed to their IDs.   There is no charge for the first ID; however, you must bring a photo ID and have paid your tuition in order to obtain your ID.  More information on photo IDs, hours, location, etc.  may be obtained by visiting this page on our site:  http://studentactivities.waketech.edu/idbadges.php

Parking Decals
Parking decals are included in your fees.  You may obtain parking decals at the Photo ID locations.

Books
Purchase your books.   More information on book purchases may be obtained by visiting this page on our site: http://bookstore.waketech.edu

Tobacco Free Campuses
Please be advised that all of our campuses are tobacco-free, which means that smoking is not allowed inside or outside of any of our buildings.  Pending Board of Trustees approval, violators may be assessed a monetary fine.  We offer cessation programs and encourage you to take advantage of these.

Parking and Transportation
The college provides parking at each of its campuses.   Bus transportation is available to the Health Sciences (see more info below) and 401S campuses; and the Adult Education Center.  More information regarding parking and transportation may be obtained by visiting this page on our site:  http://facilities.waketech.edu/parkingtraffic.php

Parking at Health Sciences Campus
Parking will be restricted at the Health Sciences campus starting this fall through late 2010, due to construction in the area and new parking deck.  If you have classes on the Health Sciences campus, please visit this page on our site:  http://healthsciencescampus.waketech.edu/index.php?page=parking

my.waketech.edu Student Portal
Go to my.waketech.edu to activate your key account.  After 24 hours, you can activate your college-issued e-mail account.   Pending approval by our Board of Trustees, most college correspondence will be sent to your college-issued email account.  More information may be obtained by visiting this page:  http://my.waketech.edu

Address Changes
Occasionally the college will need to mail you information.  Therefore, if your address changes at any point during your time at Wake Tech, please make sure you complete a Permanent Record Changes form with the Office of Enrollment and Records.   More information is available at this page on our website: http://registration.curred.waketech.edu/forms.php

Important Dates
There are several critical dates, including refund deadlines, that you need to keep up with during the semester.  The academic calendar summary is available at this page on our website:  http://calendars.waketech.edu/

Dropping Classes
Please be advised that the last day to drop a class and be eligible for 100% refund is Sunday, August 16 at 12 midnight on WebAdvisor.  From August 17-August 26, you will only be eligible for a 75% refund for dropped classes.  Should you need to drop and add classes during this period of August 17-August 21, it is VERY important that you do the add and the drop AT THE SAME TIME on WebAdvisor.  If you do not, the refund policy will kick in and only apply 75% of the dropped class to the added class.  If you want it to be an even swap, you must add and drop the classes AT THE SAME TIME.  Starting August 27, there are no refunds for dropped classes.

Student Handbook
Please make sure to pick up a 2009-2010 Student Handbook from any of our four campuses.  This handbook has a wealth of information about college policies, resources, and important dates.

Lastly, we want your college experience to be rich in social activities and full of rigorous academic study.  This is your opportunity to build or re-tool your future.  We, in Student Services, are here to help you navigate toward your goals.  Please feel free to visit us when you have questions.

On behalf of the entire Student Services staff, have an excellent semester!
