By smsports | May 14, 2012
The men’s soccer team received a new coach last fall. Coach Burbee joined the Eagle squad to continue their winning ways. After an exciting season, winning a play-in game to the region tournament which was hosted by Wake Tech, it was time to recognize student athletes for their efforts on and off the field during the fall.
At the First Annual Athletic Banquet, Coach Burbee was proud to present the following awards to this year’s winners: Arash Rowshan was presented with a plaque for stellar academic performance, receiving a 4.0 GPA; Most Improved went to Caleb Brown, Coaches Award went to Dion Heckman, and the Most Valuable Player award went to Tyler Bunn. Bunn will be leaving the Eagles to begin a new chapter in his academic and athletic career as a Seahawk for the University of North Carolina Wilmington. ”They’re getting a great player,” said Coach Burbee.
Congratulations to each award recipient!

Men’s Soccer Update
By bmleonard | September 27, 2011
The Wake Tech Men’s Soccer Team is 2-1 after its first 3 games of the season. This past weekend they traveled to South Carolina to take on Tri-County and Spartanburg Methodist. The first game saw the Eagles give up an early goal to Tri-County before scoring the next five goals of the game. Tyler Bunn led off the scoring followed by Bright Eto, and then Kevin Burke to move the score to 3-1. Arash Rowshan stepped onto the field, and scored the next two goals to move the tally to 5-1. Tri-County managed another score, but Arash Rowshan found his way behind the defense and scored his third of the match to make the final score a 6-2 victory for the Eagles.
The Eagles traveled to Spartanburg Methodist the next day to face the defending Region X champions. Tyler Bunn converted a penalty kick for an early 1-0 lead. Spartanburg scored the next 3 goals in the penalty filled contest before Kevin Burke was able to find the net just before the half to make it 3-2. Bright Eto came out and buried a shot in the second half to tie it up at 3-3, but Spartanburg was able to take advantage of the Eagles, who lost two players to injury, and finish the game with a 6-3 win.
Wednesday saw the Eagles traveling to backyard rivals Louisburg for a big matchup. Once again it was Tyler Bunn leading off the scoring with a clinical finish 2:00 minutes into the match to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. The game was a close contest with opportunities for both teams. Reed Russell made numerous highlight reel saves, including a penalty kick save, to keep the 1-0 lead, but Louisburg was able to even the score at 1-1 to send the game into overtime. The overtime session was all Wake Tech as the Eagles had the majority of possession, and that lead to Ciel Missie winning the match after getting the ball from a turnover and calmly tucking past the Louisburg keeper for the 2-1 victory!!
The Eagles will be heading back to South Carolina this weekend to take on USC Sakelhatchie and USC Sumter before returning home for their first home match on Wednesday vs. Cape Fear.
