The Wake Tech men’s golf team shot a team score of 303 each of the first two rounds for a two round total of 606 at the NJCAA D-I National Championship in Lubbock, TX this week. Eagles Soaring in Texas

The Wake Tech men’s golf team traveled to Lubbock, Texas over the weekend to get set for the NJCAA National Men’s Golf Tournament. Eagles Qualify For Nationals!

NJCAA DISTRICT 4 TOURNAMENT:
The Men’s golf team has qualified for the NJCAA D-I National Tournament which will be held in Lubbock, TX on May 14th -17th. The Eagles finished tied for 5th at the NJCAA District 4 tournament last week in South Carolina to earn their spot in Texas. The Eagles shot a 54 hole total of 889. Ryan Gilbert was NJCAA All-District as an individual and finished tied for 3rd.

NJCAA REGION X TOURNAMENT:
The NJCAA Region X Tournament was played within the District Tournament. The Eagles lost in a team playoff to USC Lancaster. The Eagles were the Region X runner up. Ryan Gilbert was the individual medalist for the Region X tournament. Gilbert and Jake Britt made the NJCAA All-Region team. Jake finished 4th as an individual.

Region X Golf Tournament

The men’s golf team ended their season last weekend at the NJCAA Region X/District 4 Championship held in Melbourne, FL. The Eagles needed to finish in the top seven to earn a trip to the National Championship. Even though the Eagles have shot better golf this season they could not pull together a low enough score individually or as a team to make the cut. After three rounds of golf (313, 317, 313) the Eagles finished the tournament with a combined 943, +91, putting the Eagles in 10th place.
Wake Tech’s Ryan Gilbert finished with the best score for the Eagles. Gilbert finished tied for 19th with a 230, +17 from the following rounds of golf: 68, 80, 82. Chris Cox tied for 43rd with a 237 (76, 83, 78), +24. Chris Freeman tied for 46th with a 240 (85, 78, 77), +27. Wes Strader scored a 243 (84, 83, 76), +30 and Chris Humble finished 56th with a 247 (88, 76, 83) +34.

Eagles compete at Carolina Sands

The Eagles competed in the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Saturday, March 31st and Sunday, April 1st. The event took place at Carolina Sands at White Lake in Elizabethtown, NC and was hosted by UNC Pembroke.
Wake Tech finished 11th out of the 15 colleges and universities that participated. As a team, the Eagles combined for 613. They shot a 308 in round one and a 305 in round two. Individually, Ryan Gilbert shot the best golf for the Eagles, with a 74 and a 73. Gilbert tied for 28th overall. See additional results below.

Eagles Compete at WCC

The Eagles competed in the Barton Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on March 19th and 20th at the Wilson Country Club. The Eagles finished 14th out of 18 colleges and universities. The team total for round one and two were 316 and 310, respectively, totalling 626.
Chris Cox led the Eagles with the lowest score, 149. Cox shot a 71 and a 78, and finished tied for 23rd with a +5. Chris Freeman followed Cox with the next best score for the Eagles, 155. Freeman shot an 81 and a 74, and finished tied for 46th with a +11.

Eagles Finish Second

Wake Tech came in second place at the TaylorMade Adidas Intercollegiate Golf Tournament in South Carolina earlier this week. The Eagles played 3 rounds with the following scores: 331, 326, and 321. The Eagles total was 978. The winning team scored 942.
Ryan Gilbert came in 6th, individually, with a score of 240. Gilbert shot an 82, 77, and an 81 on the par 72 course. Chris Cox finished in a three-way tie for 12th place with a score of 245. Cox also shot the daily low of 77 on the 3rd round.
The Eagles compete again on Monday in Wilson, NC at the Barton College Intercollegiate Tournament. Tee time is 10 a.m. at the Wilson Country Club.
