The clinic was held at Middle Creek Community Center through Cary Parks & Recreation. Four different basketball stations were set up for the kids- shooting, ball handling, lay-ups, and passing. The team represented Wake Tech well and had a lot of fun with the kids!

Team Gearing Up for Exciting Third Season

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 15, 2010) – Wake Technical Community College volleyball head coach George Tsai announces five new recruits for the 2010 season. Brittany Brown of Wilmington, Emily Ellington of Henderson, Clarice Sherard of Dudley, Maria Muna of Fayetteville and Brandy Driver of Louisburg have all signed national letters of intent.

“I am very happy and excited to add Brittany, Emily, Clarice, Maria and Brandy to our 2010 roster,” says Coach Tsai. “They are all very exciting players to watch and I feel they will add immediate depth to our team.”

Last year, the Wake Tech’s women’s volleyball team finished third in the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA), Division 1, Region X with a record of 12-9. The team finished its inaugural 2008 season in fourth place with a 6-9 record. The new recruits will join five returning players on the team. Tryouts for other interested players will be held August 2-3 at the North Raleigh Christian Academy in Raleigh.

The women’s volleyball team kicks off its 2010 season on August 27th, when it competes against Davidson Community College at Davidson. All home games are played at the North Raleigh Christian Academy.

Scott Colley is Among the Top Junior College Golfers in the Country

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 21, 2010) – Wake Tech golfer Scott Colley will transfer and play golf at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke this fall. A star player on the inaugural Wake Tech golf team, Colley tied for 6th place in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 Championship in Huntsville, Alabama in May. He also earned second team All-American, a first for any Wake Tech athlete.

WTCC Golf Coach Andrew Wilkinson says he’s not surprised to see Colley recruited by a UNC System school. “Scott is a great player,” says Wilkinson. “I know he’ll be successful at UNC-P and I look forward to following his career as he one day reaches his goal of playing on the PGA Tour!”

Colley is a 2004 graduate of Fuquay-Varina High School. He plans to major in accounting at UNC-P, and would eventually like to get a master’s degree in economics. He credits the Wake Tech golf program with inspiring him, both athletically and academically. “Playing golf at Wake Tech opened a lot of doors for me,” he says. “Getting the chance now to play at the next level is going to be awesome!”

Wake Tech’s golf program started in the spring of 2009 and won first place in the NJCAA Division 1, Region X in its inaugural season. This year, the team finished 2nd in the region and 14th in the nation.

Basketball Player Signs with University of Central Missouri   

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 21, 2010) — A starting point guard and shooting guard for the Wake Tech Eagles basketball team has become Wake Tech’s first athlete to sign with a four-year university. Lance Beckwith signed a letter of intent to play his last two years at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) in Warrensburg, Missouri. The offer, one of several he considered, comes with a full scholarship. The University of Central Missouri is one of the top 10 Division II programs in the United States. He will start at UCM this fall.

Beckwith led the Eagles to a 17-11 record in Wake Tech’s inaugural basketball season, and a third place finish in the NJCAA Division I, Region 10. He set the single game scoring record with 47 points last November against Sandhills Community College, and made 133 free throws on the season.

“Lance is a great shooter with a good understanding of the game,” says WTCC head basketball coach Van Williams. “If he works hard and dedicates himself over the next two years, he should do very well!”

Beckwith played with the 2008 state champion Word of God Christian Academy team with star players John Wall and C.J. Leslie. After a successful year at Bethany College in West Virginia, he came to Wake Tech in the hopes of being recruited by an NCAA team.

Wake Tech’s athletics program began in 2008 with men’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s golf. Men’s and women’s basketball, along with cheerleading, were added last fall. Baseball and softball started this spring. Wake Tech is a Division I member of Region 10 in the National Junior College Athletics Association (NCJAA).  The Miracle League provides special needs children the opportunity to play baseball.  Currently, the Miracle League has over 200 players (18 teams) and over 500 volunteers. 

As you can see from the pictures, a lot of fun was had by everyone!
