Talon Races For The Cure

Talon was at it again, representing Wake Tech and spreading Eagle spirit at the Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure on Saturday, June 8th. Talon created race day enthusiasm in the Kid’s Zone but continues to be a favorite of kids and adults alike! Cheer Team Receives Safety Training

On Monday, August 20th, Sgt. Wyatt Cumbo, Campus Police & Security Services, presented the Eagles Cheerleading Team with the first of two safety training workshops. He demonstrated valuable self-defense techniques and discussed verbal strategies and the importance of being cautious and aware of your surroundings in isolated areas. Sgt. Cumbo also provided information on situations and social issues related to alcohol and other drug use.
 
 
“I feel a personal responsibility for encouraging my team to be accountable of their personal safety,” said Tammy Stephenson, a Wake Tech Cheerleading Coach. “The cheerleaders are sometimes on Main Campus late in the evenings for practices and ballgames or alone at a mall or restaurant. By educating our students to possible dangers and teaching them self-defense skills, their chances of being victimized are minimized. I want to thank Chief Penry and the Campus Police Department for being true to their word of providing programs that enhance personal safety. Sgt. Cumbo’ s proactive safety tips gave the cheerleaders a new sense of confidence. They are pleased to know that campus police are genuinely concerned for their well-being.”

At It Again

A week away from the start of the fall semester and Talon is already lending a helping hand and spreading Eagle spirit! On Wednesday, August 8th, Talon assisted Coach Tammy Stephenson at the Main Campus Disability Support Services Orientation. He distributed game day schedules and enjoyed interacting with students. Talon continues to make the Wake Tech family proud!

Cheer Team Winners!

The First Annual Athletic Banquet was an exciting event for Wake Tech Athletics. The Eagles now have 11 NJCAA sports and a cheerleading program. The Cheer Team is coached by Tammy Stephenson-Hamid and Jess MacNair. The Co-Coaches were proud to announce the 2011-2012 Cheer Team award winners at the banquet.

Elizabeth Ball received the Most Improved Award. Elizabeth made great strides to improve her skills throughout the season. Jordan Foster received the Coaches Award for doing all that was asked of her. Talon, Wake Tech’s mascot, received the Most Valuable Player Award for his ability to excite the crowd. Talon not only represented Wake Tech in costume but also with SPIRIT…lots of spirit! From dance moves to cartwheels, Talon always gave Eagle fans a show!

Congratulations to all for another great year!

Location: ECPE Dance Studio, Main Campus
 
Participants must have a completed Wake Tech Sports Medicine Packet in order to participate. Click on Forms (to the right under Cheerleading & Mascot Info) to locate a packet. Congratulations Talon!

Our very own Wake Tech Eagle mascot, Talon, has been inducted into the New Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society! The induction ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 18th in the Student Services Building on main campus. The Cheer team, coaches, and athletic staff are thrilled for Talon and wish our very spirited Wake Tech Eagle mascot the best!
