By Jennifer Sills | May 13, 2009
RALEIGH, N.C. (May 11, 2009) -
Barry Street, Athletics Director at Wake Technical Community College (WTCC), has tapped Nicole Dobbins to coach the Wake Tech Eagles’ women’s softball team. Dobbins, an accomplished softball player, previously served as head coach at St. David’s High School in Raleigh and as assistant coach at Peace College. The Wake Tech women’s softball team (as well as the men’s baseball team) will start competitive play next spring. Home games for the women will be played at Middle Creek Park in Cary, while the men’s team will play at the USA Baseball Complex, also in Cary.
Dobbins was captain of the Peace College team in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and was selected for the All-Conference team each year. She was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Atlantic Regional Team in 2005 and 2006. She also played on teams competing in the World University Games in Sydney, Australia, in 2005, and the Spanish Cup in Barcelona, Spain, in 2006. Dobbins got her start on the varsity team at Southeast Raleigh High School. She is currently working toward her master’s degree at N.C. State University.
Wake Tech’s athletics program started last fall with men’s soccer and women’s volleyball, and the program continues to grow each semester. Golf was added this spring; basketball starts this fall. Teams play as Region 10, Division I members of the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA). The program is funded solely by student fees and private donations.
