Wake Tech Golfers Ready to Tee Off
Athletics Director Presents Schedule for Teams’ First Season
RALEIGH, N.C. (January 22, 2009) —
Barry Street, Athletics Director at Wake Technical Community College, announces the inaugural season of the college’s men’s and women’s golf teams. Competitive play is set to begin in Youngsville on February 17, against Louisburg College. The teams will be coached by Andrew Wilkinson, whom Street tapped for the Wake Tech Athletics staff last August.Wilkinson is a graduate of Wake Tech and Campbell University. He has played with distinction in a number of local tournaments and coached golf as well as baseball. He has worked for Duke University Golf Club and helped organize the NCAA Division I national golf championship and tournaments for the Golf Channel and Golf Galaxy.

“We’re excited to get the golf program off the ground,” says Wilkinson. “We have some great talent in this area and I can’t wait to see what the season has in store.”

Wake Tech’s athletics program began last fall with the start of men’s soccer and women’s volleyball. Basketball will be added this coming fall, baseball and softball in the spring of 2010. Wake Tech is a Division I member of Region 10 in the National Junior College Athletics Association. .
