Wake Tech Eagles Advance In Soccer Tourney

Men’s Soccer Team Wins in First Round
RALEIGH, N.C. (October 30, 2008) — The Wake Tech’s men’s soccer team soundly defeated USC Sumter today in the quarter-final game of the Region X - Division 1 Soccer Tournament. The teams faced off this afternoon at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Final score — 5 to 1. The Wake Tech Eagles now move on to the semi-finals, taking on Cape Fear Community College on Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The winner of that game progresses to the championship game on Sunday, also played in Spartanburg.
In today’s action, Sumter had early lead with a quick goal 1-0. WTCC answered with a goal by #9 Michael Statum unassisted late in the first half. In the second half, #23 Franklin Madueke scored 3 goals; first one with an assist by #5 Kyle Dickerson, second goal was scored off a turnover, and the third he scored after it was stolen on the breakaway with an assist by #29 Hicham El Bariqi; score 4-1. Then Madueke returned the favor with an assist to El Bariqi, who scored the 5th WTCC goal. Eagles win the game 5-1.
